How do I become a certified PADI Wreck Diver diver?

Wrecks come in all shapes and sizes, each with its own unique characteristics. In the PADI Wreck Diver course, you will gain the knowledge and skills to navigate and explore various types of wrecks. This involves delving into their layouts, histories, and potential dangers, while also honing specialized wreck diving techniques.

INDEPENDENT STUDY

Take charge of your learning by completing the independent study portion of your course at your own convenience, wherever and whenever works best for you. Gain valuable insights into various wreck types and the potential risks associated with wreck diving.

You have the flexibility to work at your own pace, whether online or offline, using a computer or mobile device. If you ever need guidance or have any questions, simply connect with your instructor. They will be there to support you during your in-water training and whenever you require assistance.

The eLearning component of the course typically requires a time commitment of 2-4 hours.

AT THE DIVE SHOP

Throughout four dives accompanied by your instructor, you will have the opportunity to engage in various activities. These include surveying and mapping a wreck, refining specialized finning techniques, and potentially utilizing penetration lines for advanced exploration.

To participate in the Wreck Diver course, you need to meet the following prerequisites: holding a PADI Adventure Diver certification or an equivalent qualification.

The total time commitment for the course is approximately 2-3 days. It is important to note that the dives must be spread out over a minimum of two days to ensure a comprehensive learning experience. Additionally, the minimum age requirement for enrollment is 15 years or older.

Medical Requirements for this course

If you (or your physician) have questions about medical fitness to dive, contact the experts at Divers Alert Network (DAN).

Avoid disappointment, download and review the Diver Medical form to ensure you won’t need a physician’s approval to dive before enrolling in a scuba course. Instructors, divemasters, and dive shop staff are not physicians and should not be asked for medical advice; only medical professionals can give medical clearance to dive.

Scuba diving requires a minimum level of health and fitness. Chronic health conditions, certain medications and/or recent surgery may require you to get written approval from a physician before diving.

To obtain certification for this course, you will need to complete both knowledge development and in-water training. When you purchase PADI eLearning through our website Start Diving Online or directly from PADI, the cost covers the knowledge development component exclusively.

The exact cost is determined by the independent PADI Professional overseeing your training. Apart from the standard scuba gear needed for the specific diving environment, there are additional equipment items you may utilize during this course. These include dive lights, a slate and underwater compass for mapping and navigation purposes, as well as a line and reel for practicing wreck penetration techniques. Depending on your location and specific needs, your instructor may recommend other equipment suitable for wreck diving. Feel free to consult your instructor for further guidance.

Once registered, you can’t change the PADI Dive Center or Resort associated with your online program. However, the eRecord you receive when you complete your online study is accepted by any PADI Dive Center, Resort or Instructor worldwide. Where you complete your training is your choice, so it’s not necessary to change the store or instructor associated with your eLearning account.
